Membership Under 16

It’s never too early to start saving, and by helping younger people to get into good financial habits early, you are giving them a head start in thinking about money in a responsible way. Here at Ballinasloe Credit Union we have many junior members who have savings accounts and are enjoying the benefits and responsibility that comes with starting a relationship with a financial institution.

A junior account can be opened by anyone between the ages of 0-15 years and can be opened by the child’s parent. Once the child turns 16, the account is deemed to be an adult account. Junior members must satisfy our common bond requirements, where they must live in our common bond.

Under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010, we are required to confirm the following information when a child wants to open an account:

  • Name of child – Passport or Birth Certificate.
  • Permanent address of the child – Parent’s utility bill / bank statement.
  • The PPSN of the child – Letter from the Social Welfare.

We also require the following two forms of original identification for the parent;

  • Current valid proof of identity – Passport or Driving Licence.
  • Current proof of address (Originals only – dated within the last 3 months) – utility bill or bank statement.

If you have any queries regarding these requirements, please contact us.
